Claudio Salas

Claudio Salas represents clients in high-stakes international commercial and investment treaty arbitrations arising in multiple jurisdictions under a variety of arbitral rules, with a particular focus on Latin America.  He has advised clients on shareholder, post M&A, joint venture, and licensing disputes, among other commercial disputes, and on treaty disputes involving issues such as expropriation, fair and equitable treatment, and denial of justice.

Claudio has advised clients on complex fact issues and cross-border legal issues, as well as coordinated strategy among multiple parties and counsel. Claudio's experience in Latin America includes disputes in the energy, pulp and paper, and airline industries.  He has advised clients in multi-billion-dollar commercial disputes in Brazil and clients in commercial and treaty cases against states and state-owned entities in jurisdictions such as Argentina, Ecuador and Peru. 

Outside of Latin America, Claudio's experience includes intellectual property disputes in the chemical, life science, and cell phone industries.  Claudio has also represented clients in international litigation in U.S. federal courts and in FCPA and other government investigations.

Claudio speaks and publishes regularly on issues relating to international disputes.  He has taught international commercial arbitration at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
