Ehren Halse is an associate in the Special Matters/Government Investigations Practice Group at King & Spalding’s San Francisco, CA, office.  Mr. Halse’s practice focuses primarily on white-collar criminal litigation and corporate internal investigations. His experience includes defending individuals and companies in investigations by Congress, various U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, multiple divisions of the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the Inspector General, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.  In addition, he has conducted various internal investigations and helped clients to develop comprehensive compliance and training programs

Representative Experience  

  • Represented a medical device manufacturer in a market-wide criminal and civil inquiry into allegations of violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

  • Represented an international oil and gas services provider in a criminal and civil investigation regarding activities alleged by a whistleblower to have been in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

  • Assisted a pharmaceutical company with an internal review of its anti-kickback compliance protocols.

  • Represented a private Medicare and Medicaid provider in criminal and civil investigations by the Tampa U.S. Attorney’s Office, DOJ, DHHS-OIG, qui tam Relators, and States’ Attorneys General into alleged health care and political contributions fraud.

  • Represented multiple drug companies in criminal and civil investigations by the Boston U.S. Attorney’s Offices, DOJ, and DHHS-OIG, as well as internal compliance reviews regarding alleged “off-label” promotion, and other allegedly fraudulent sales, marketing and development activities.

  • Represented an individual investigated by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee for Investigations for alleged participation in an off-shore tax shelter.  No charges were pursued against the client.

  • Represented various companies in criminal and civil antitrust investigations led by the DOJ and SEC regarding alleged price-fixing, bid-rigging and market collusion.

  • Represented an Internet company’s General Counsel in the San Francisco U.S. Attorney’s office and SEC’s investigation into alleged stock-options backdating.  No charges were pursued against the client.

  • Pro Bono - Currently representing disabled veterans returning home after being injured abroad with their disability claims and appeals at numerous military installations, including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Bethesda Naval Hospital, and Madigan Army Medical Center.

Before joining King & Spalding in 2006, Mr. Halse graduated from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as a legal writing fellow for both the J.D. and LL.M. writing programs.  Mr. Halse also served as a member of the Student Bar Association and participated in HomeCourt, an annual fundraiser for the homeless that pitted members of Congress against Georgetown faculty and students in a charity basketball game.  He also worked full-time during law school as a paralegal at the U.S. Attorney's office in D.C., assisting a blind attorney in the Narcotics-Organized Crime and Sex Offense-Domestic Violence sections.  Before attending law school, Mr. Halse worked for two years as an outdoor educator and trip leader at George Mason University's Outdoor Education Center in Clifton, Virginia, and at Fort Funston in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, in San Francisco, California.
