NEW YORK, Nov. 14, 2016 — King & Spalding announced today that Brian Betancourt has joined the firm’s New York office as partner in the global finance practice. Betancourt joins King & Spalding from Alston & Bird.
“Brian’s reputation for being an efficient go-to lawyer will be instrumental in the firm’s ability to counsel its many sponsor clients in the energy sector on their project finance mandates,” said Carolyn Z. Alford, head of King & Spalding’s global finance practice. “His practice handling a gamut of finance matters from energy power projects to healthcare financing makes him a natural fit for the firm’s focus on both industries. We welcome him to the team.”
Betancourt’s experience includes financing and the development of energy and infrastructure projects, as well as the acquisition and divestiture of energy and infrastructure facilities. He represents banks in connection with numerous types of loan transactions as well as direct purchases of bank qualified and non-bank qualified bonds, primarily for healthcare and not-for-profit entities. He received a BA. from University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from New York Law School.
“King & Spalding has been able to capitalize on its investments in its energy and finance platforms giving it critical mass, which makes it an exciting time to join the firm,” said Betancourt. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues in New York and around the world.”
Betancourt joins an expanding global finance team in New York, which earlier this month added Brandon Dalling as counsel from Latham & Watkins. Dalling’s practice focuses on project development and project finance, M&A transactions and commodity derivatives in the energy sector. Betancourt and Dalling join partners Jeffrey Misher, Terry Novetsky and counsel Anthony P. Mechcatie, all of whom joined the global finance practice earlier this year in the New York office.
King & Spalding’s Global Finance practice brings together more than 100 finance lawyers located in offices across the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East to represent lenders, investors, funds and borrowers in the full range of secured and unsecured financings. In each of 2014 and 2015, the firm closed approximately 200 finance transactions for our clients, amounting to over $120 billion in aggregate financing. In 2016, the firm was selected as Energy Practice Group of the Year by Law360 and Energy Advisory Firm of the Year: Legal by Petroleum Economist.
