Zuzana Ikels is a Partner in our Healthcare practice. Zuzana focuses on complex commercial disputes in healthcare and healthcare technology. She has successfully defended her clients against dozens of consumer class actions involving federal and state consumer protection statutes and privacy laws, the False Claims Act, and other complex business disputes.

Zuzana has an in-depth knowledge of IT and Big Data infrastructures including advising on electronic records and retention programs, privacy and consent policies, devising strategic e-discovery plans, database discovery and Big Data analytics. Through her extensive knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations governing healthcare privacy and security, She devises creative and results-oriented legal strategies in high-stakes litigation. She has handled dozens of complex disputes and class actions involving federal and state competition, consumer protection statutes and other privacy-related laws. She frequently counsels, speaks and writes about privacy, interoperability, and harmonizing healthcare laws with digital health technology.

Lead trial counsel on behalf of multiple hospitals in a private arbitration against a health plan related to a managed care dispute Our clients were awarded the entire amount of damages requested as well as attorney fees.

Defeated a TRO against a California hospital brought by a union seeking to enjoin the closure of a line of service that was financially unsound. Within 48 hours, we removed the matter into federal court and defeated all arguments alleging the Hospital had violated local ordinances or state requirements.

Prevailed on summary judgment for a hospital, which sought to shift liability of medical devices approved and regulated by FDA manufacturers and distributors, and alleged a negligent credentialing claim.

Representing a hospital in several qui tam actions in California state court; Relators are individuals and insurance carriers asserting violations of California.

Protected multiple hospitals from being forced to disclose trade secrets in antitrust lawsuits, which included a successful emergency writ petition filed with the California Court of Appeals.

Represented one of the largest national providers of healthcare services against a novel, corporate negligence theory in medical malpractice case.

Obtained dismissal of out-of-state hospital in a qui tam action, alleging insurance billing fraud and kickbacks.
