Ugur is a member of the firm's International Trade team. He focuses on international trade and sanctions matters, including trade remedies, WTO law, customs, trade policy and sectoral and financial sanctions.
Ugur regularly advises clients in all types of trade investigations across multiple jurisdictions, including the EU, the UK, Canada and Turkiye. His practice also involves assisting clients in their compliance with sectoral and financial sanctions programs, as well as in other aspects, such as EU trade compliance, regulatory, litigation, and other cross-border needs.
Prior to joining King & Spalding, Ugur worked in the international trade and sanctions practices of other international firms in Brussels.
His career has been primarily focused on numerous trade remedies investigations (safeguard, anti-dumping, anti-subsidy, anti-circumvention and review investigations) conducted by the EU Commission, the UK Trade Remedies Authority, the Canada Border Services Agency and the Turkish Ministry of Trade. Ugur has been part of case teams for WTO disputes to advise governments in the consultation, panel or appeal stages, as well as for trade litigations before the CJEU. Ugur also has experience in advising clients on their day to day transactional compliance with EU and international sanctions, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine. He holds accreditation by the ACSS as a certified sanctions specialist.
In addition to his expertise in international trade and sanctions, Ugur has gained experience in customs and EU regulatory matters (in particular, regulatory developments on EU aviation industry, CBAM and EUDR).
Ugur holds an LL.M. from the University of Edinburgh, as well as a Master’s (equivalence) degree in public international law from Université Libre de Bruxelles. Prior to his postgraduate studies, Ugur obtained an LL.B from Galatasaray University. He is fluent in English and French and is a native Turkish speaker.
