Recognized as one of the “Top 40 Under 40” lawyers in California by the Daily Journal, Megan Nishikawa is a partner in King & Spalding’s Trial & Global Disputes Group.  She focuses on defending publicly-traded companies in complex commercial and high-stakes product liability matters.  Megan represents clients in the energy, chemical, consumer, and pharmaceutical industries in state and federal courts nationwide. She has extensive case management, discovery, deposition, dispositive motion, and trial experience.  She has co-led many trials, each lasting several months.    

Megan works closely with her clients and understands how to leverage pressure to negotiate efficient and effective settlements. But she also has the skill set and experience to prepare a case for trial. She has significant briefing experience at the trial and appellate levels and regularly leads large case teams through complicated and extensive discovery.

Megan’s representative clients include Shell Oil Company, ConocoPhillips, Chevron, and the Dow Chemical Company.  Megan co-chairs King & Spalding’s Northern California Women’s Alliance, has served as the  Summer Associate Program Co-Chair, and she currently serves as the Northern California Office’s staffing partner.

Represented Petitioner in Ocasio v. United States, argued before the U.S. Supreme Court. The Court considered whether a person accused of conspiracy to commit extortion under the Hobbs Act (18 U.S.C. § 1951) may be convicted for extorting a fellow conspirator.

Defending ConocoPhillips and Phillips 66 against public nuisance claims in state and federal court brought by California cities against fossil fuel manufacturers and distributors seeking remediation allegedly resulting from climate change.

Defending Shell Oil Company in a large docket of cases proceeding in both state and federal courts against statutory and common law claims brought by California water systems as a result of historical use of agricultural chemicals.

Defended Shell Oil Company against product liability claims in two separate four-month jury trials relating to contamination of California water systems as a result of historical use of agricultural chemicals. Presented and cross-examined numerous witnesses and successfully argued both dispositive and evidentiary motions.

Defended the Dow Chemical Company against personal injury claims in a three-month jury trial in which plaintiffs alleged that exposure to certain chemicals caused cancer and reproductive and immunological diseases. Obtained a complete defense verdict.

Defended The Dow Chemical Company and Dow AgroSciences LLC in a docket of drinking water contamination cases brought by California water purveyors relating to the use of agricultural and industrial chemicals.

Defended Chevron U.S.A. Inc. against numerous actions filed by 30,000+ plaintiffs and the City of Richmond as a result of the Richmond Refinery fire/explosion.
