Joe Englert is an associate in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office and is a member of the firm’s Contracts and Business Torts Practice. His practice focuses on representing large businesses and corporations in complex commercial disputes, including policyholder insurance coverage disputes, intellectual property and trade secrets litigation, financial services litigation, franchise litigation, and contract disputes. Joe’s representation of insurance policyholders includes all aspects of insurance coverage disputes, including complex litigation relating to property damage, bad faith claims, directors and officers liability (D&O), professional liability / errors and omissions (E&O), cyber /privacy liability, and advertising injury, as well as advising clients in obtaining best in class terms and conditions with U.S. and international insurers for D&O, E&O, cyber/privacy, and other lines of insurance coverage. Joe’s representative clients include financial institutions, franchisors and manufacturing companies.

Before joining King & Spalding, Joe was an associate with DLA Piper LLP, where he represented Fortune 500 companies and large franchisors in various commercial transactional, regulatory and litigation matters, and a litigation associate at Wargo & French LLP, where he represented financial institutions, manufacturers and technology companies in complex commercial disputes and policyholder insurance coverage disputes.

Joe earned his law degree from the University San Diego School of Law, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Order of the Coif. In law school, he won an award for outstanding oral advocacy and served as a staff member on the San Diego Law Review and executive editor of the Journal for Climate and Energy Law. He received his B.A. in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.

Joe is a lecturer at the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Public Policy. He was selected to the 2015 class of Leadership North Fulton and also serves on an advisory board for the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

Defended lenders and national financial services organizations in numerous state and federal trial court actions filed by plaintiffs asserting violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes and/or common law claims including fraud, negligence, breach of contract, quiet title, promissory estoppel, etc.

Advocated on behalf of multinational financial institution on numerous appellate matters.

Obtained summary judgment on behalf of multinational mortgage lender in case involving claims of breach of contract and fraud in which plaintiff sought damages in excess of $2 million, including emotional distress damages.

Defended manufacturer of animal health products in federal court against Lanham Act claims for alleged trademark and trade dress infringement and false advertising.
