John Whittaker is a senior associate and member of the firm’s Healthcare practice. John’s practice focuses on representing hospitals and healthcare providers in litigation and arbitration. John has substantial experience representing hospitals and hospital systems in managed care disputes with health plans involving contracted and non-contracted reimbursement. John has also represented healthcare entities in qui tam actions and disputes involving breach of contract and unfair competition claims.

In addition to hospitals clients, John has also represented physician groups, medical foundations, a hospital association, and an ERISA health benefits plan in healthcare-related disputes, including claims for breach of contract, fraud, unfair competition under California’s Business and Professions Code section 17200, and responding to third-party discovery subpoenas. John also represents hospitals in disputes with health plans over the reasonable value of non-contracted emergency services.

John currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of Programming & Education for the Health Law Committee of the Business Law Section of the California Lawyers Association. John is also a member of the California Society for Healthcare Attorneys and the American Health Lawyers Association. John was recognized Top Lawyer in Health Law by Sacramento Magazine in 2017. John serves as a member of the Pro Bono Panel of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California and was a past honoree at the 2014 Night to Honor Service.

John received his J.D. from UC Davis School of Law. During law school, John served as an extern for the Honorable Lawrence K. Karlton, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. John also competed at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and served as a teaching assistant for torts.
