Jake Heyka’s practice focuses on the formation and structuring of open- and close-end private investment funds and other investment vehicles. He counsels clients on the intersection of corporate, tax and international regulatory considerations across the asset management industry.

Jake regularly represents private equity firms, investment managers and other sponsors of funds and investment vehicles across all sectors, including real estate, infrastructure, renewable energy, and debt.

Jake also advises private fund sponsors on exemptions and other compliance matters under the Investment Company Act of 1940 and the Investment Advisors Act of 1940 and has experience in complex cross-border tax structuring for investment funds in the U.S. and Europe.

Jake holds a dual B.C.L./LL.B. from the McGill University Faculty of Law/Faculté de Droit where he was the Coordinating Editor for Volume 2 of the McGill Journal of Dispute Resolution / Revue de Règlement des Différends de McGill and led team Canada in the International Bureau for Fiscal Documentation Global Tax Treaties Commentaries Moot.
