People

Based in New York, Isabel is a partner in the International Arbitration group. She has more than 19 years of experience advising clients in complex, high-profile, and high-value international disputes—both commercial and treaty arbitrations with host governments. Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, she focuses on disputes in the energy, and infrastructure sectors, as well as disputes arising from long-term projects in a variety of industries worldwide. Her matters often exceed US$ 1 billion in dispute and are in the vanguard of legal, factual, and technical developments in international arbitration. Since 2020, Who’s Who Legal has recognized Isabel annually as a “Future Leader – Partners” in international arbitration. She has also been recognized multiple times as a “Rising Star,” including by Law360 (2019), GAR 100 (2015), and Legal 500 (2013).

Isabel’s practice covers every stage of an international dispute, from drafting arbitration agreements and pre-dispute advice, to representing parties in arbitration proceedings and counseling clients through the final phases of award recognition, enforcement, and set-aside. Isabel has experience coordinating numerous parallel proceedings in various jurisdictions, including cross-border litigation and arbitration for complex disputes.

In addition, Isabel has significant experience negotiating settlement agreements for complex international disputes. She also advises on international structuring of projects and corporations to maximize protection of investments under international law.

Isabel’s practice includes seating as arbitrator. She often speaks at seminars and workshops on international arbitration topics.

Isabel holds a law degree (JD equivalent) from Universidad Complutense of Madrid (Spain) and another law degree (JD equivalent) from Universitè Paris I Panthèon-Sorbonne (France). She also obtained a Master in Corporate and Business Law from Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain.

Isabel is a member of the Madrid Bar.  She is admitted only in Spain.  She is registered as a Foreign Legal Consultant in the State of New York.
