Gus Filice specializes in litigation of environmental and toxic tort class actions and disputes. As a partner in our Environmental and our Mass Tort and Toxic Tort practices, Gus represents chemical and petrochemical companies in a variety of matters at the trial and appellate level.

Gus represents chemical and petrochemical industry clients, including The Dow Chemical Company, Dow AgroSciences, Chevron Corporation and Union Oil Company, in environmental, toxic tort, personal injury and commercial litigation. An experienced trial and appellate lawyer, he regularly defends claims concerning matters such as groundwater contamination, air pollution from industrial facilities, and contaminated-site responsibility and cleanup costs before state and federal courts, up to and including the U.S. Supreme Court.

Gus has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyer from 2004 to 2017, by The Best Lawyers in America for 2011–2017 and by Legal 500 for 2012–2017. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Lawyers.

Represented The Dow Chemical Company as national counsel in chlorinated solvents litigation including multiple actions brought by water purveyors alleging contamination of groundwater supplies by various chemicals including 1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP), Ethylene dibromide (EDB), Perchloroethylene (PCE), Trichloroethylene (TCE) and 1,2,3-Trichloropropane (TCP). Multiple trials have occurred in various jurisdictions and significant appellate decisions have resulted from cases.

Obtained defense verdict in action brought by neighbors of a chemical formulating facility claiming that groundwater contamination caused a cluster of neurological diseases and cancer.

Represented a multinational oil company in multiple actions brought by persons and municipal entities claiming harm from releases due to events occurring within large refinery.
