Emerson Holmes specializes in construction and engineering disputes in the infrastructure and oil and gas sectors. As a partner in our International Arbitration practice, Emerson represents clients in a range of infrastructure disputes throughout Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Emerson represents and advises employers, contractors, subcontractors and consultants in construction, engineering and infrastructure project disputes. Project types include power plants, liquefied natural gas facilities, mines, railways, airports, reclamations, floating production storage and offloading facilities, pipelines, petrochemical works and traditional buildings.
Emerson works with clients that have used one of the major forms of international construction contracts, including FIDIC, ICE, IChemE and NEC, as well as other contract forms popular in Asia and Australia. He also advises on commercial matters arising from infrastructure projects, such as shareholder matters, insolvency, insurance, class actions and procurement.
To resolve disputes, Emerson acts as an advocate in international arbitration under all major rules, as well as dispute boards, adjudications, expert determinations, and early neutral evaluations. He has also litigated disputes before courts in Australia, England and Wales, Scotland and Hong Kong, and is qualified to exercise Higher Rights of Audience in the courts of England and Wales.
Emerson has received a Client Choice Award from Lexology and ILO for his work in Singapore Construction. He has also been recognized for Singapore Construction in the Chambers Asia-Pacific guide.

Acting for a Korean contractor on claims against a supplier of turbines for an independent power plant in Saudi Arabia and English law governs.
Acted for a US contractor in a large (over AUD 2 billion) off-shore LNG dispute involving repudiation and termination off the coast of northern Australia. This dispute also involved pre- and post-termination issues with respect to the determination of a joint venture involving the contractor-consortia.
