Vance Center Recognizes King & Spalding At Celebration of International Pro Bono Excellence

NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2020 — The Cyrus R. Vance Center for International Justice recognized King & Spalding at its fifth annual Celebration of International Pro Bono Excellence for its work on the incorporation and tax-exemption application for the Asheville Watchdog, a nonprofit news site in North Carolina. The firm handled this pro bono matter as part of the Vance Center’s Good Governance Program, which “pursues openness and honesty in government, supporting civil society and independent journalism to hold officials and institutions accountable.”

Counsel Aleksandra Kopec and Associate Tres Ricks led the initiative on behalf of the firm. Other members of the team included Partner Scott Petty, Partner Joshua Toll, Counsel Anthony Mechcatie, Senior Attorney Elizabeth Fox and Paralegal Moira Sheehan.

In addition, the Vance Center recognized Partner Viren Mascarenhas and Counsel Douglass Cassel for their contributions to complex, urgent pro bono matters in Central America.

The Vance Center is named for Cyrus R. Vance, former U.S. Secretary of State and New York City Bar Association President, who advocated for fundamental rights through collaborative problem solving and the ethical imperative of pro bono practice. The organization advances global justice by engaging lawyers across borders to support civil society and an ethically active legal profession.
