U.S.-Mexico Trade in Energy: Critical Issues under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA)

The USMCA has been in force for almost two years.  This period has been significant in the energy markets due to changes in Mexico’s administration, energy policy and customs agency authorities. Trade and energy lawyers from the U.S. offices of King & Spalding and the Mexico offices of Chevez Ruiz Zamarripa will address the impact of these changes on the energy industry.  Topics will include how USMCA implementation affects:

  • Constitutional energy reform
  • Trade in natural gas
  • Electricity and renewables projects
  • Forced migration of major consumers to the Wholesale Electricity Market
  • Arbitrability of energy matters
  • M&A trends in the energy market

The panelists will discuss ways to manage this risk, including through dispute settlement options, compliance considerations and engaging with governments.
