NEW YORK, Feb. 1, 2018 — Law360 has recognized King & Spalding’s Life Sciences practice as a Practice Group of the Year for its successes on behalf of life sciences clients in the courtroom and the regulatory arena during 2017, according to the publication.
In its profile of the practice, Law360 highlighted the firm’s litigation win for Johnson & Johnson in a trial where plaintiffs argued that the company’s talc product was linked to mesothelioma. Johnson & Johnson hired the firm after other firms had lost five other similar trials. Law360 also noted King & Spalding’s success for client Egalet Corp. in an FDA appeal regarding its opioid abuse deterrent product and stated that the practice has become “a premier source for FDA and CMS consulting.”
Partner Alex Calfo, who led the talc trial team, told the publication: “We know the science, we have great expert resources, we have an amazing FDA practice that I think is the best in the country, and on top of that, we have licensing and patent lawyers, and we have more trial lawyers that try life science cases than any firm in the country.”
The annual Law360 Practice Group of the Year awards “honor the law firms behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry” in the past year, according to the publication.
