Law360 Names King & Spalding an Environmental Practice Group of the Year

NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2019 — Law360 has recognized King & Spalding’s Environmental practice as a 2018 Practice Group of the Year for its “vigorous defenses of large energy companies.” This is the second time the firm has earned this recognition.

In its profile of the practice, Law360 highlighted the group’s $9.5 billion victory for Chevron Corp. against Ecuador in a pollution matter; its representation of Chevron in a case over an oil refinery fire; its successful representation of ConocoPhillips in climate change suits brought by cities in California and New York; and the settlement it achieved between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and the federal government and consumers in emissions software litigation.

Granta Nakayama, leader of the firm’s Environmental, Health & Safety team, told Law360 that 2018 was “a tremendous year of growth” for the team.

Law360’s annual Practice Group of the Year honors are given to the law firms behind the “litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry” in the past year. The Practice Groups of the Year were selected from among 759 submissions from 84 law firms.

In addition to being named an Environmental Practice Group of the Year, King & Spalding also won Firm of the Year honors for being among the firms with the most Practice Group of the Year recognitions. The firm was also recognized as a Practice Group of the Year for Automotive, Construction, Healthcare, International Arbitration, Life Sciences and Product Liability.
