NEW YORK, Feb. 28, 2019 — Law360 has recognized King & Spalding’s Automotive practice as a 2018 Practice Group of the Year for its successes on behalf of its high-profile automotive industry clients over the past year.
In its profile of the practice, Law360 highlighted the group’s success in securing an exit for Toyota from a nationwide class action in the Takata airbag multidistrict litigation; leading Volkswagen’s settlement negotiations in the largest-ever Clean Air Act enforcement case; advising VW and Porsche AG on regulatory investigations into diesel engine emissions; and brokering an agreement with the government on behalf of Kia Motors Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. to terminate a consent decree in the country’s second-largest-ever Clean Air Act penalty case over fuel emissions claims.
Philip Holladay Jr., partner and co-lead of King & Spalding’s automotive initiative told Law360: “I just don’t think there’s another firm that cuts across so many areas. When we set up this group we wanted automakers and others in what we see as a rapidly evolving industry to look to King & Spalding to provide legal advice and handle their most challenging, complex and cutting-edge issues and problems. We think we’re well on the way to being that firm and that is what we pride ourselves on.”
Law360’s annual Practice Group of the Year honors are given to the law firms behind the “litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry” in the past year. The Practice Groups of the Year were selected from among 759 submissions from 84 law firms.
In addition to being named an Automotive Practice Group of the Year, King & Spalding also won Firm of the Year honors for being among the firms with the most Practice Group of the Year recognitions. The firm was also recognized as a Practice Group of the Year for Construction, Environmental, Healthcare, International Arbitration, Life Sciences and Product Liability.
