NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2020 — Law360 has named King & Spalding’s life sciences practice a 2019 Life Sciences Practice Group of the Year for helping pharmaceutical companies “fight product liability claims, defend against government investigations and protect their drug products.” The group received this recognition for the fourth consecutive year.
In its profile of the practice, Law360 highlighted several of the group’s 2019 successes, including:
- “its prowess in the intellectual property space by beating back competition for Galderma Laboratories LP’s rosacea treatment Oracea;”
- Its work representing Actelion Pharmaceuticals US Inc. in an Anti-Kickback Statute and False Claims Act investigation;
- Its success in helping Amarin Corp. protect its omega-3 drug Vascepa by obtaining favorable settlements for the company in two suits brought against Coromega Co. Inc. and Omax Health Inc.; and
- Wins for Johnson & Johnson, as its California coordinating and trial counsel, in suits regarding talc-based powder products.
King & Spalding is “able to take on a wide array of areas, including intellectual property, U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulation, government investigations and product liability,” Nikki Reeves, partner and co-chair of the firm’s life sciences and health care industry group, told Law360. “It’s an A-team in all of these big practice areas. Not just one, and not just two—it’s all of them.”
Law360’s annual Practice Group of the Year honors are given to the law firms behind the “litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry” in the past year. The Practice Groups of the Year were selected from among 776 submissions from 85 law firms.
In addition to being named a Life Sciences Practice Group of the Year, the firm was also recognized as a 2019 Healthcare Practice Group of the Year.
