King & Spalding Receives Law Firm Diversity Award from Chevron For Fourth Time

HOUSTON, Aug. 10, 2015 — For the fourth time, King & Spalding has been recognized by the Chevron Corporation for its commitment to promoting diversity in the legal field, and has been awarded the 2015 Chevron Law Firm Diversity Award.

David Garten, Chevron’s vice president and general counsel of downstream and chemicals law, presented the award at a ceremony July 1 to New York partner Caline Mouawad and Atlanta partner Sam Matchett, chair of King & Spalding’s diversity committee. Also in attendance at the ceremony, held at Chevron’s Houston offices, were King & Spalding partners Tracie Renfroe and Jeremiah Anderson.

“We could not be more honored and proud to receive this award,” said Mouawad in a speech at the ceremony. “It adds validation to the ongoing efforts of our colleagues who strive to be inclusive in their support and development of our attorneys, in our pipeline efforts and our legal community outreach.”

Chevron’s Law Firm Diversity Award program, started in 2005, recognizes the company’s law firm partners that have distinguished themselves by demonstrating their commitment to diversity. As part of the award, Chevron will donate $5,000 on to a non-profit legal organization of each honoree’s choosing. King & Spalding has selected For People of Color, Inc., an organization that provides free law school admissions consulting services to prospective law school applicants of color.

King & Spalding’s diversity committee, which includes firm leaders, directs action to advance diversity both within the firm and in the legal profession as a whole, including increasing the number of women and minorities hired, providing diversity training to the firm’s lawyers and committing funds to a minority scholarship program.
