SINGAPORE, Jan. 10, 2019 - King & Spalding has added Andrew Brereton, one of the leading banking and finance partners in Asia-Pacific, to its Singapore office. Brereton was most recently a partner at Clifford Chance and joins King & Spalding’s Corporate, Finance and Investments (CFI) practice.
Brereton has been based in Asia-Pacific for more than 20 years and advises financial institutions and investors on the full spectrum of banking work, including acquisition finance, structured lending, syndicated loans, trade finance, project finance, reserve-based lending as well as restructurings and workouts. Brereton has top-tier rankings in Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific and sits on both the Singapore Leadership Committee and the Singapore Documentation Committee of the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association.
“Andrew’s experience of providing premium legal advice to many of the world’s largest financial institutions, coupled will his stellar portfolio of work for alternative credit fund clients, signifies a unique blend of expertise that is a great complement to our practice,” said Todd Holleman, head of the firm’s CFI practice. “The firm is investing heavily in our international transactional practices so Andrew gives us a high-calibre offering that not only benefits our clients in Asia but also globally.”
Brereton’s hire follows that of Singapore-based M&A partner Lee Taylor, previously head of Clifford Chance’s M&A group in Singapore and the private equity practice in South East Asia, who joined in January 2018 to spearhead the corporate team in Asia-Pacific.
“We are delighted to welcome Andrew, one of the leading banking and finance lawyers in South East Asia, to the firm” said Kelly Malone, office managing partner of the firm’s Singapore office. “Andrew will play a significant role growing our finance platform across Asia together with John McClenahan in Tokyo and will complement our M&A and private equity offering in Asia which is led by Lee Taylor in Singapore.”
“King & Spalding has an outstanding reputation in its areas of focus, and the firm has been astute in growing key practices and geographies around the globe in recent years,” said Brereton. “Asia is increasingly key to the global economy, and I am delighted to be joining the firm as it continues to develop its offering in the region and to working closely with my new colleagues in developing our finance practice in Asia and around the world.”
