King & Spalding Advises on Two Award Winning Deals at Association of International Petroleum Negotiators Summit Awards

HOUSTON, May 29, 2019 — King & Spalding represented Sierra Oil and Gas in a transaction that the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN) named 2019 Deal of the Year – DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG’s acquisition of Sierra.

The transaction integrated Sierra’s business with DEA Deutsche Erdoel AG, an international independent exploration and production company headquartered in Germany. The resulting portfolio will consist of ten exploration blocks and one onshore production block and is expected to require a capital investment of more than $2 billion dollars during a five-year span. It was the first major upstream M&A transaction in Mexico after the enactment of the Energy Reform in 2014.

The King & Spalding team advising Sierra on the transaction included Vera De Brito de Gyarfas, Martin Hunt, Todd Amdor and Nathan Zhang.

In addition, King & Spalding’s LNG team advised Kosmos Energy on certain LNG aspects of a project named AIPN’s Venture of the Year – the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project being undertaken by Kosmos Energy, BP, SMHPM & Petrosen.

The King & Spalding team advising Kosmos Energy on the transaction included Monica Hwang and Merrick White.

The firm also advised Mubadala Petroleum on a deal that was a finalist in AIPN’s Venture of the Year category –  Gazprom Neft, Mubadala Petroleum & Russian Direct Investment Fund’s establishment of a venture to develop oil fields in the Tomsk and Omsk regions of Western Siberia. The King & Spalding team advising Mubadala Petroleum on this transaction included Jennifer Josefson, Ilya Zotkin, Alexandra Rotar, Xenia Melkova, Kseniya Makovetskaya and Stanislav Rzhaksenskiy.
