James Castello to Speak at United Nations Commission on International Trade Law’s Colloquium

Paris International Arbitration partner James Castello will be a featured speaker at a week-long Colloquium beginning on March 28 organized by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) at the U.N. in New York. The Colloquium will focus on four topics for the Commission’s possible future legislative work in the field of international arbitration; James will speak on the Colloquium’s first day and on its first topic, which is the impact of increased use of virtual proceedings rather than in-person hearings in international arbitration. This topic derives from a proposal by Japan’s delegation to UNCITRAL that the Commission examine the “standards, rules and guidance needed … to improve the quality of dispute resolution in the digital economy.”  James has been a member of the U.S. delegation to UNCITRAL’s Arbitration Group for more than 20 years.
