Insight Session: Regulatory and Compliance Issues

Regulation is going global: Cross-border coordination between regulators has increased markedly since the financial crisis. From day-to-day supervision through enforcement and criminal prosecution, the authorities are working together and sharing information and best practices as never before.

Join King & Spalding for a breakfast roundtable discussion at which two of our London partners, Gareth Rees, QC and Robert Dedman—two former heads of enforcement at major U.K. regulators—will lift the lid on how the authorities approach these difficult issues.

The discussion will cover:

  • Potential areas of global regulatory focus, including why U.K., EU and U.S. regulation is relevant to GCC-based business.
  • Strategies for managing relationships with regulators – how do you avoid “that” call?
  • Factors that push regulators and prosecutors toward investigation and enforcement.
  • Plans for handling the investigative process if the worst does happen.
  • Complexities of international and multiagency enforcement.
  • Reasons that a “tick the box” approach to compliance is no longer enough.
  • Recent corporate governance trends in more developed markets, such as the U.K. and their potential future relevance going forward to listed companies, large private companies and those advising them in the Middle East.

The interactive session will give attendees plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We hope you will be able to join us for what is sure to be a fascinating event.
