Impact of Congressional Actions Related to COVID-19 on Healthcare Providers

Please join King & Spalding on March 27, 2020 for a report on the latest Congressional actions related to COVID-19 and its impact on the healthcare provider community. On March 19, 2020, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) was introduced in the Senate by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. As currently drafted, CARES would, allow the HHS Secretary to make billions of additional dollars available to the healthcare providers, suppliers, and manufacturers. The CARES Act would also increase flexibility under the Medicare program for providers to respond to COVID-19, including changes around telehealth, home health certifications, inpatient rehabilitation facility services, and long-term care hospital discharges and payments.

Early Wednesday, the House and Senate reached an agreement on an amended version of the introduced legislation which contains over $2 trillion in relief including numerous health care related provisions.  The Senate is expected to act on it soon and send it to the House which is widely expected to accept the bill without further amendment and send it to the President for his signature.

Please join us Friday when we will provide a briefing on the critical portions of the health provisions of the CARES Act and answer your questions.  While we hope for an early return to normalcy, we will continue to provide timely updates in the coming weeks as Congress continues to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. Additional invitations to follow any significant legislative developments.
