NEW YORK, April 9, 2019 – King & Spalding was named the international arbitration practice that impressed the most in 2018 by Global Arbitration Review at its Ninth Annual Awards Ceremony, held in Paris on April 4, 2019.
The firm also placed second globally in Global Arbitration Review’s “GAR 30” ranking, a guide to the world's leading international arbitration practices. The GAR 30 highlighted the firm's large portfolio of cases as counsel valued at over US$128 billion and 78 pending cases as arbitrator, the highest of any law firm.
“King & Spalding built its name on results,” noted Global Arbitration Review, highlighting that “in a glittering year, the firm secured a US$2 billion ICSID award against Egypt, a US$1.7 billion defense win for Reliance Industries and a landmark ruling for Chevron against Ecuador.” Two of these decisions were also nominated for “Most Important Decision of the Year” at the awards ceremony.
Global Arbitration Review lauded the firm for its spectacular rise by recruiting many of the world’s leading practitioners in international arbitration. In the last two decades, King & Spalding’s international arbitration practice has grown to “become a 100-strong enterprise across 15 offices that is now regularly found in the top tier of arbitration rankings.”
The GAR 30 commentary quotes King & Spalding’s clients describing the firm’s practice as “the very best arbitration law firm we have ever worked with,” “committed and highly skilled,” “very pragmatic” and “amazing.”
“We are delighted with this recognition from GAR,” said Ed Kehoe, co-head of King & Spalding’s international arbitration group. “Clients come to us for our world-class expertise in handling their most difficult international disputes, and it’s gratifying to be recognized for the results we obtain – both from independent legal directories and from our clients.”
