FDA has acknowledged significant interest in the development of medical therapies and consumer products made from cannabis and cannabis-derived components, such as cannabidiol (CBD). It is clear, however, that FDA believes there are legal limitations that constrain lawful marketing pathways. The agency also has voiced concern about the public health impact of cannabis and cannabis-derived products. As a result, marketers of these products find themselves in uncertain waters from the standpoint of regulatory compliance and enforcement risk.
This webinar will:
- Analyze FDA’s guidance and actions to date, with a focus on implications for pharmaceutical, food, dietary supplement, and cosmetic manufacturers.
- Frame FDA’s actions in the context of the larger policy debate about access to cannabis products, including the impact of pending and enacted federal and state legislation and the activities of other government agencies.
- Discuss the “moving parts” of the existing regulatory regime and its intersection with scientific progress and innovations, including the development of analytical standards, methodologies and programs to enable product research and development.
- Address practical considerations related to state and federal regulation of hemp and the implications for companies sourcing and processing hemp and its derivatives.
