LOS ANGELES/SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 9, 2020 — The Daily Journal has named King & Spalding partners Michael Shepard and David Willingham to its 2020 list of Top White Collar Lawyers in California.
Shepard, who is based in the firm’s San Francisco office, is an accomplished former federal prosecutor with extensive experience in white-collar criminal defense, civil trials, and internal investigations. In profiling him, the Daily Journal noted his representation of a major multinational technology company, where he led a team of a dozen lawyers on corporate governance, criminal and other issues across numerous jurisdictions in the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including a case brought by the French National Financial Prosecutor, whose claims amounted to tens of billions of euros and potential criminal liability. The matter was resolved for a fraction of the demand with no criminal conviction.
Willingham, who is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office, has represented numerous individuals and entities facing governmental investigations and other complex litigation issues in both state and federal courts around the country. The Daily Journal highlighted his representation for a parent charged in the “Varsity Blues” college admissions corruption prosecution and his role serving as lead counsel in a physician assistant’s successful defense after she was arrested last year as part of the government's opioid addiction epidemic investigation.
