NEW YORK, June 16, 2017 — Independent legal ranking organization Chambers and Partners has awarded King & Spalding’s Women in IP group with a 2017 Women in Law Award for being the Most Innovative Women’s Networking Group.
King & Spalding’s Women in IP group has been “effectively targeting a traditionally male-dominated practice area,” Chambers officials noted at a June 15 ceremony. “Beyond concerted efforts to advance the careers of their female lawyers in this field, they have organized and hosted a Girls’ STEM Robotics Program, growing each year from 2015 and now taking place in five cities across the U.S. The event encourages girls and young women to engage in and think creatively about robotics, while also exposing them to senior King & Spalding lawyers and clients.”
Over the last five years, King & Spalding’s women IP partners have made it their mission to actively encourage girls and young women to pursue scientific and technical educations by exposing them to STEM-related events outside the classroom. In addition to the annual Girls’ STEM Robotics Event, the Women in IP group has organized several firm-sponsored and hosted events, including four scholarships to a Georgia Tech engineering summer camp for girls as well as sponsorships to Destination Imagination programs at two Title-1 schools in Houston. Increasing opportunities for girls in STEM-related fields is an important step toward realizing greater economic success and equality for women across the board.
