ATLANTA, June 10, 2016 — Atlanta magazine has named King & Spalding partner Phyllis Sumner to its annual list of Women Making a Mark. A profile of Sumner, as well as a video interview, were published by the magazine this month. Sumner, a litigator and former prosecutor, leads the firm’s Data, Privacy & Security practice.
The Atlanta magazine profile focuses on how Sumner’s work prosecuting the Eric Rudolph Centennial Olympic Park bomber case struck close to home, as Sumner had competed in Olympic screening trials years before as an equestrian. Sumner served as a federal prosecutor for eight years and now leads King & Spalding’s data privacy and cybersecurity team, often managing sensitive data security incidents and representing clients in high-profile data breach cases.
“I’m essentially a crisis manager,” Sumner told the magazine. “It’s very, very difficult for companies to stay ahead of the criminal actors in this space.”
The Women Making A Mark program recognizes and celebrates women who are positively shaping the city of Atlanta.
“Not only are these women leading some of Atlanta’s finest corporations, they serve as role models and mentors to all of us that strive to give back, contribute to others and do work tirelessly for causes they are passionate about,” said Sean McGinnis, president and publisher of Atlantamagazine, which will hold a luncheon for honorees today at the Mandarin Hotel.
