White House Announces Members of COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force & Plans to Build More Mass Vaccination Centers

During the White House COVID-19 Response Team press briefing on February 10, 2021, Jeff Zients, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, announced the launch of the federal COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force. Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith will serve as the chair, and the list of members can be found here. The advisory body will issue recommendations for the equitable allocation of COVID-19 resources.

Zients also announced that the administration will partner with the state of Texas to build three new major community vaccination centers in Dallas, Arlington, and Houston. These sites are expected to launch the week of February 22 and will have the capability of administering more than 10,000 shots per day. Community vaccination centers will also be announced in the state of New York. Last week, the administration announced plans for new mass vaccination centers in California.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, announced that many states, cities, and locations will soon enter 1C of the vaccine rollout. This phase includes vaccinations for people 16-64 years of age with underlying conditions. Dr. Fauci also stated that clinical trials are starting to assess the vaccination for children and pregnant women.
