U.S. Government and Private Companies Take Steps to Thwart Bad Actors in Vaccine Rollout

On February 11, 2021, the Department of Justice announced that three Baltimore-area men are facing federal charges after attempting to fraudulently sell doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The three men allegedly replicated the website of a biotechnology company with an approved vaccine. They then attempted to sell doses of the vaccine through the fake domain.

The Department of Justice continues to monitor for COVID-19 vaccine fraud schemes. Private companies involved in the distribution and administration of vaccines are also taking steps to fight fraud. Earlier this month, major pharmacies and retailers announced plans to prevent bot attacks by scalpers attempting to reserve and resell vaccine appointments.
