Pfizer and BioNTech Ask FDA to Approve COVID-19 Vaccine for Children Ages 12 to 15


On Friday, Pfizer and BioNTech asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to amend the Emergency Use Authorization of the their COVID-19 vaccine. Specifically, the drug companies requested that the FDA expand use of their vaccine to children ages 12 to 15. While the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is currently authorized for use only in individuals 16 years of age and older, data from a Phase 3 trial in children ages 12 to 15 years of age “demonstrated 100 percent efficacy and robust antibody response after vaccination with” the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
