Moderna, the manufacturer of one of three COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States, has launched a COVID-19 vaccine trial for children ages 6 months to less than 12 years old. The drug company said that it will enroll nearly 6,750 children in Canada and the United States for the study. Moderna plans to monitor children participating in the study for a year to ensure that the vaccine is safe and effective.
Moderna has also started testing its vaccine in children ages 12 to 17 years old, and it expects to have the results for that age group by the end of summer. Pfizer and BioNTech are currently testing their COVID-19 vaccine in children ages 12 to 15 years old, and they plan to launch a separate trial for children under 12 years old.
