King & Spalding represents clients in virtually all aspects of the sports, media, and entertainment industries. Our team of sports, media, and entertainment attorneys practice across a broad spectrum of our firm’s practice groups, enabling us to provide a wide range of strategic counsel to our clients in these high profile industries.
We represent sports franchises and sports associations at the highest levels. We handled the acquisitions of, and serve as general outside counsel to, professional sports franchises in all four major sports in the United States: NFL (Atlanta Falcons), NHL (Atlanta Thrashers), NBA (Atlanta Hawks), and the MLB (Houston Astros and Texas Rangers). In addition, our former Chairman, Walt Driver, has served as general counsel to the United States Golf Association (USGA) and was elected to serve as President of the USGA in 2006 and 2007.
We have an industry leading stadium finance and public infrastructure practice group. This group has served as insurance and bond counsel on new stadium finance and construction projects for the New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, and Philadelphia Eagles. Our construction and procurement practice group also served as general counsel to the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, handling all aspects of stadium construction for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games.
We also routinely advise our sports, media, and entertainment clients on a wide range of intellectual property, technology transactions, dispute resolution (including service as national class action counsel to clients in the boating and marine industries), sponsorship, marketing, licensing, and labor and employment matters.
