Our power practice draws on the talents and experience of more than 200 lawyers resident in our offices worldwide. Our attorneys have advised multilateral lenders, commercial banks, developers, sponsors, investors, insurers and others in connection with the development, construction, finance, operation, acquisition and disposition of power projects on every continent except Antarctica. We have been active in developing and financing power plants ranging from 2 MW to 2,700 MW, and utilizing such diverse technologies as natural gas, oil, coal, cogeneration, biomass and industrial waste, hydroelectric, biodiesel and geothermal, as well as alternative technologies such as solar, wind and compressed air energy storage. This breadth of experience allows us to effectively advise clients on the best means to structure and negotiate project, sovereign, finance and security agreements in order to maximize our clients’ interests and effectively address project risks.
King & Spalding’s lawyers also possess years of experience with power and water projects in the Middle East and North Africa region specifically. We have represented regional and international project sponsors and lenders on projects throughout the region, and understand the issues that affect these projects, from governmental regulation to the political and commercial environment in the various countries of the MENA region. Providing on-the-ground, real-time support to our clients throughout the region, we are able to staff our clients’ transactions with a multi-disciplinary team—including world-class construction experts—that can see a transaction through from start to finish.
