Your destination firm for complex Latin America energy matters. U.S., European, Asian and Latin American companies engage our Latin America energy practice to help plan, structure, develop, finance, construct and  operate their complex energy and natural resource projects throughout Latin America. We understand the energy business and provide precise and effective advice to companies investing in energy projects. When energy-related disputes arise – whether involving general commercial matters, construction issues or disputes with host countries and investors in energy projects – our top-tier disputes team helps resolve them efficiently and effectively. These teams – which operate from our offices in Houston, New York, Singapore, London and Washington -- are among the most highly-regarded in Latin America: We are ranked Band 1 for International Arbitration and among the top Latin America-wide Projects & Energy firms by both Chambers Latin America and Legal 500 Latin America.

Bringing extensive regional experience to the table. For more than 30 years, our lawyers have represented stakeholders in some of the most significant economic developments in the region. For example, our oil and gas experience in Latin America dates back to the 1980s, when members of our team represented multinationals in the negotiation of concession agreements, farmout agreements and other industry based investments and related litigation. Also, our lawyers represented numerous energy companies in the privatizations and project development that swept the region in the 1990s, placing members of our team at the negotiating table in some of the largest investments seen in the region. Our group includes U.S. lawyers with broad expertise in the region and others that were born in Latin America and are  licensed to practice law in Latin American countries. Fourteen members of our practice group are Spanish speakers and several speak Portuguese. During our many years working in Latin America, we have gained intimate knowledge of Latin America laws, culture and  practices and have developed strong relationships with government officials, investments banks and business leaders in the energy industry.

Breaking new ground for clients in project development, M&A, dispute resolution. When clients seek to advance complex, first-time energy projects or prevail in a bet-the-company dispute in Latin America, they turn to us. We are one of the leading firms for liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects and are currently active on many “firsts” in the region, including the first LNG import terminal planned in Uruguay, the first floating LNG export production facility in the world and Colombia’s first LNG facility of any kind, among others. We have earned multiple, high-profile international arbitration victories against the Government of Ecuador for an international oil major and are widely considered a top firm for investment treaty arbitrations in the region.
