Eric Schwartz a Panelist at Arbitration Conference on ‘Finality of Awards’
23 Jul 2010

WASHINGTON, July 23, 2010 — Eric Schwartz, a partner in the international arbitration practice of King & Spalding, will be a speaker at a live conference titled “International Arbitration and Finality of Awards — A Tour D'Horizon,” at Georgetown University Law Center on September 28. The program is sponsored by West LegalEdcenter.

The conference will address the following issues:
  • What determines finality?
  • When is an award clothed with res judicata
  • When do arbitrators lose their power to decide?
  • Are international arbitrators prevented from revisiting and reconsidering their own prior awards?
  • Do intervening or changed circumstances justify revision of an award intended to be final?
Schwartz and a fellow panelist will focus on the topic of “Reconsideration and Changed Circumstances,” including a discussion of whether international arbitrators are prevented from revisiting and reconsidering their own prior awards, and whether labels make a difference.
