Business Trial Lawyer Beth Tanis Joins King & Spalding
11 Nov 2008
ATLANTA, November 11, 2008 — King & Spalding, a leading international law firm, announced today that Elizabeth Vranicar Tanis, an experienced trial lawyer with particular expertise in accountant liability, securities and class action matters, has joined the firm as a partner in its business litigation practice in Atlanta. Tanis, who has represented the Big Four public accounting firms, is wellknown in the industry for “big stakes” litigation.
“We are excited to welcome Beth to King & Spalding and look forward to the contributions she will make to the expansion of our business litigation practice,” said Jeff Cashdan, head of the firm’s Atlanta business litigation practice. “Beth is an accomplished trial lawyer and brings additional first-chair trial experience to our securities and complex business litigation team.”
Tanis joins King & Spalding from Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, where she was a partner and head of its professional responsibility practice. Her vast trial experience includes a recent four-week jury trial in which her clients were exonerated of fraud and RICO claims seeking more than $400 million in damages and in which the remaining claim for negligence resulted in a verdict for less than 10 percent of the plaintiffs’ lowest settlement offer. Tanis is listed as a leading lawyer in Chambers USA 2008 America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and was named by
Atlanta
magazine as one of Georgia’s top 100 lawyers and top 50 female lawyers. She is president of the ACLU Foundation of Georgia and serves on the executive committee and board of directors of Georgia Appleseed and on the board of visitors of Georgia State University School of Law.
“I am delighted to be joining King & Spalding’s business litigation practice,” Tanis said. “The firm’s reputation, its resources at the national and international levels, its remarkably talented litigators and its focus on growth offer me an extraordinary platform to expand the geographic reach of my practice, particularly on high-exposure accountant liability matters.”
Since January 2008, King & Spalding has added 14 litigation partners to its offices in Austin, Charlotte, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. These partners are Timothy T. Scott, Geoffrey M. Ezgar, Todd A. Lorenz, Carlton Wessel, Kenneth B. Reisenfeld, Peter Dehlinger, Judy M. Mohr, Mike Stenglein, Jeff Furr, Ursula Henninger, Donald F. Zimmer, Brenda Buonaiuto, Paul J. Andre and Lisa Kobialka.
King & Spalding’s business litigation practice is recognized nationally and internationally as one of the best. The firm’s litigators are noted for their trial skills, and they have handled hundreds of high-stakes class actions in federal and state courts across the United States. Sixteen King & Spalding partners, including five retirees, are fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers. The firm has been named twice as one of the top defense firms in the nation in
