Middle East & Islamic Finance

Overview

At the Forefront of Islamic Finance

King & Spalding has one of the premier Islamic finance and investment practices worldwide. Our firm’s work in the Middle East and our experience with Islamic finance date back to the early 1980s. In 1995, we took the step of establishing a separate Islamic Finance and Investment Practice Group, making us perhaps the first law firm to establish a practice group dedicated to this specialized field. Since then, we have been successful in developing the legal architecture needed by our clients to break new ground in Islamic finance and investment. In 2004, King & Spalding was recognized by Euromoney as “Best Legal Advisors in Islamic Finance,” the first such award presented by the magazine.

We have nearly 20 lawyers in New York, London, Dubai, Riyadh (affiliated office) and Atlanta who devote substantially all their time to Shari’ah-compliant finance and investment transactions. This core is supported by over 30 corporate, real estate, finance, energy and tax lawyers who are regularly involved in these transactions. We have depth in this practice area—in 2008, more than 200 of our lawyers were involved in Middle East and Shari’ah-compliant finance and investment transactions handled by our firm.

Our clients include Islamic and conventional financial institutions, merchant and investment banks, venture capital funds, fund sponsors and family investment companies. We are committed to providing our clients with innovative, efficient and practical solutions to issues that arise in Shari’ah-compliant financing and investment transactions.
