Overview

Generally, 2Ls who wish to be considered for the summer associate program in one of our offices meet with the firm during on-campus interviews organized by their law schools. In most cases, each student will meet one or two interviewers from the office of interest who will determine if the student will be invited for a call back interview in our office.

Call-Back Interviews

Students who are invited for call-back interviews in our office will receive a telephone call either from the on-campus interviewer or a member of our Recruiting team to schedule a day of interviews as soon as possible. During the scheduling call, we will discuss the student's particular areas of interest to ensure that the appropriate attorneys are included on his or her interview schedule. Call-back interviews take about four hours during which each candidate meets with partners and associates. The call-back interview process may also include lunch or dinner, and we will discuss this in with the student in advance. A member of our Recruiting team will send a copy of the preliminary interview schedule prior to the interview day. Please confirm with the recruiter with whom you will be meeting the day before your interview in case there are any changes.

Travel

At the student's request, we arrange travel and hotel accommodations related to call back interviews for out-of-town candidates. We encourage students to coordinate interview trips with other interviews, so that whenever possible the cost may be shared among the firms with whom the student is meeting. We prefer that students use the NALP Travel Expense Reimbursement Form which is available at www.nalp.org/forms.

Hiring Criteria and Offers

King & Spalding fills our summer associate classes with 2L students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, excellence in related areas such as law review and moot court, have a record of achievement and/or leadership in other types of extracurricular activities, and strong interpersonal skills. In certain instances we may hire exceptional 1L or 3L candidates.

Throughout the recruiting season, our Hiring Committees meets regularly to review the interview files of summer associate candidates. Decisions are made on a rolling basis and candidates will receive a telephone call or a letter notifying them of the Hiring Committee's decision. Additionally, all candidates who receive an offer receive a letter notifying them of the details of the offer. Candidates generally hear from us within two weeks of their call-back interview date. To comply with the NALP Part V: General Standards for the Timing of Offers and Decision, all offers will remain open for at least 28-days.
