- King & Spalding placed 40th in The American Lawyer's “The AmLaw 100 2009” rankings of U.S. law firms. The firm has ranked among the top 50 surveyed law firms each year since 1990.
- King & Spalding ranked as the 40th highest grossing law firm in the world in The American Lawyer’s 2009 survey of global law firms.
- King & Spalding is the 37th largest law firm in the U.S. based on number of lawyers, according to The National Law Journal.
- King & Spalding is among the top 20 law firms in the U.S. that corporate general counsel would want to represent their companies on national matters, according to a 2008 survey by Corporate Board Member magazine and FTI Consulting. King & Spalding ranked 16th in the survey of 217 general counsel of publicly traded companies.
- In Corporate Counsel’s annual survey “Who Represents America’s Biggest Companies?”, King & Spalding consistently ranks among the firms most mentioned overall for total representations of Fortune 250 companies in litigation, corporate transactions, corporate governance, intellectual property and labor & employment.
- King & Spalding is one of the nation’s top firms for client satisfaction, according to BTI Consulting Group’s annual survey. In a poll of nearly 400 in-house counsel the firm was among those most frequently identified as providing “superior client service.”
- For the fifth consecutive year, King & Spalding earned high marks in Multicultural Law Magazine's list of "The 2009 Top Law Firms for Diversity." King & Spalding ranked third for the 2009 top law firms for African-Americans, 13th for women, and 53rd for diversity overall.
- King & Spalding earned a rating of 95 percent in the Corporate Equality Index 2010 — a report card on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality in corporate America. King & Spalding scored a maximum rating in 10 out of 11 categories.
International Expertise
- In its 2010 edition, the IFLR 1000 recognized King & Spalding as one of the world’s leading law firms advising on financial and corporate matters. The firm earned a total of four rankings in this year’s IFLR 1000 guide, and two King & Spalding lawyers were singled out for special recognition.
- King & Spalding is the nation’s best law firm in dealing with general corporate governance issues according to a 2009 survey released by Directors & Boards magazine. In addition, we placed No. 2 in handling general corporate governance matters, No. 3 in director liability and No. 4 in board-level M&A.
- In 2008, The American Lawyer’s biennial Litigation Department of the Year survey named King & Spalding one of the top litigation firms for a third consecutive time. In the 2004 edition of the survey, The American Lawyer named King & Spalding as one of the top three product liability litigation practices in the U.S. and in 2006 and 2008, the firm received an honorable mention.
- King & Spalding’s international arbitration practice earned a top 10 spot among global law firms serving as arbitration counsel, as ranked by The Global Arbitration Review in its 2008 "GAR 30" survey. King & Spalding’s 31 pending matters with a value of $21.5 billion contributed to the firm's inclusion on the list of leading international arbitration firms.
- For the eighth year in a row, Latin Lawyer magazine has recommended King & Spalding in its 2008 Latin Lawyer 250 guide to the top law firms working in Latin America. In Mergermarket’s 2007 year-end league tables, the firm ranked among the top 10 firms in the world for mergers and acquisitions work, by volume, in South and Central America.
- King & Spalding ranked 22nd in The Private Equity Analyst’s April 2008 survey of the most active law firms in the United States representing general partners or limited partners in connection with private equity or venture capital funds that held a final closing in 2007.
- King & Spalding earned the No. 2 spot in The American Lawyer magazine’s 2009 “Arbitration Scorecard,” a biannual list of the world’s top 12 law firms for international arbitration.
- In a survey of more than 250 law firms, King & Spalding ranked in the 'Top 20' by value for representation of both U.S. lenders and borrowers on syndicated loan transactions in 2007. The firm was credited as an advisor to lenders on 56 syndicated deals worth nearly $36 billion and as counsel to borrowers on 12 deals worth in excess of $12 billion.
- King & Spalding consistently ranks among the top 20 bankruptcy law firms in the nation based on the number of active cases, according to the weekly financial publication The Deal.
Exceptional Lawyers
- Including nine of our retired partners, King & Spalding has 19 members of the American College of Trial Lawyers, widely considered to be the premier litigation, trial practice and ethics association in the United States. Two of our lawyers, the late U.S. Attorney General Griffin Bell and retired partner Frank Jones, have served as president of this prestigious association.
- King & Spalding won a Chambers USA Award of Excellence 2009 in the international trade category and the firm’s international arbitration and construction practice groups were honored as finalists — the international arbitration practice for the third year in a row.
- King & Spalding lawyers earned 120 individual rankings in the 2009 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, which is based on extensive interviews with thousands of clients and lawyers. In addition to 120 individual lawyer rankings, King & Spalding earned 25 national rankings and 23 state rankings for its various practice areas in Washington, D.C., Georgia, New York and Texas.
- Twenty-six King & Spalding lawyers and 18 of the firm’s practice areas were identified as leaders in their fields in the 2009 edition of Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business. The firm received high marks for its work all over the world, including globally, regionally in Latin America, the Middle East and North America, and in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the U.S.
- In the 2009 edition of its annual U.S. guide, Legal 500 recognized King & Spalding as a leading law firm in 10 practice areas. In addition to the practice area rankings, 24 King & Spalding lawyers were identified by the publication as exceptional legal counsel in 28 areas of the law.
- Legal 500 recommended King & Spalding as a leading firm in three United Arab Emirates practice areas in the 2008 edition of The Legal 500: Europe, Middle East & Africa. in addition to rankings in the areas of ‘Banking & Finance’,‘Projects & Energy’ and ‘Corporate and M&A’, the publication recognized five King & Spalding lawyers as leading legal practitioners in the UAE.
- One hundred sixteen King & Spalding lawyers were selected by their peers to be included in the 2009 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. The firm’s lawyers received 177 total mentions in 39 different categories of legal expertise.
- In 2009, the American Health Lawyers Association ranked King & Spalding’s health law practice the largest in the nation, with 234 health industry practitioners.
