Wilfried Witthuhn is a senior partner in the firm's Capital Transaction and Real Estate Practice Group in New York. His practice is concentrated on German-U.S. cross-border investments and transactions. During his over thirty years of practice he has represented numerous German but also U.S. real estate investment funds of all kind in structuring their funds and in the purchase, sale and financing of U.S. commercial and multi-family real properties. He has also extensive experience in the formation of joint ventures for real estate and industrial projects. Mr. Witthuhn further represents German and other European industrial companies in general corporate matters and in corporate acquisitions in the U.S. and Canada as well as several German banks in their U.S. lending and other activities.
Mr.Witthuhn studied law at the University of Hamburg, Germany, School of Law, obtained the requisite degrees in 1971 (with high honors), and in 1975 (with honors) after his mandatory practical training and working for one year as a cram course teacher in Hamburg and Berlin, lecturing a total of well over one thousand law students in preparation for their exams. Also in 1975 he was awarded a Ph.D. degree (Doktor der Rechtswissenschaften) (cum laude) from the University of Hamburg, School of Law.
Mr.Witthuhn is admitted to bar in Germany and in New York for over thirty years. Before starting his practice in New York City in 1981, he worked with a leading law firm in Hamburg, Germany, and joined King & Spalding in 1990 when it took over the New York law firm he had established with a partner. At King & Spalding, Mr. Witthuhn was instrumental in setting up the firm's Frankfurt office in 2007, where he practices part of his time.
Mr. Witthuhn was a co-contributor to “Harvard Law School, World Tax Series, Taxation in the Federal Republic of Germany,” published by Commerce Clearing House, Inc. as well as the “World Commercial Law Reporter,” published by West Publishing Company, Inc. He was appointed to the West Publishing Company’s Editorial Advisory Board for Transnational Publications and has been retained as an expert witness in the area of German civil, commercial and procedural law in a number of U.S. litigation cases.
Mr. Witthuhn was recognized in Chambers Global 2011 as a Leading Individual and Expert Based Abroad in Corporate and M&A matters in relation to Germany.
