Austin Jowers is a Partner in the Financial Restructuring Practice Group in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office.  Mr. Jowers’ practice encompasses a broad range of bankruptcy matters with a focus on distressed M&A transactions and representing secured lenders and debtor in possession lenders in connection with commercial workouts and restructurings.

Mr. Jowers has extensive experience representing purchasers and sellers of distressed assets in chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.  In connection with M&A transactions involving financially distressed companies, his clients have included Lone Star Funds, Reynolds Capital Group, Propex, Inc., Sea Island Company, Land South Holdings, LLC, Green Earth Fuels, LLC, Arcapita, Inc., Kelly Capital, Centennial HealthCare Corporation, Titan Financial Group and Rhodes, Inc.

In addition, Mr. Jowers represents financial institutions and other lenders in connection with in and out of court restructurings.  He has served as counsel to secured lenders, debtor in possession lenders, and agents for lenders in a number of significant restructurings, including NWL Holdings, Inc., Bender Shipbuilding Co., and Fountain Powerboats, Inc.

Mr. Jowers is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bar Association, the Atlanta Bar Association and the State Bar of Georgia.  He serves on the advisory board for the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Southeast Bankruptcy Workshop, the firm’s associate development committee and lectures frequently on bankruptcy issues before bar groups and in continuing legal education programs.  Mr. Jowers was recently selected as a Georgia “Rising Star” in Bankruptcy by Atlanta Magazine (2011).

Mr. Jowers received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Rhodes College in 2000 and his law degree, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University in 2003, where he was awarded the American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence.
