Susan Harlocker is a registered patent agent in the firm’s Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Intellectual Property Group. Dr. Harlocker specializes in patent prosecution and due diligence in the life sciences. Her general areas of expertise are molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, and DNA and protein sequence analysis.

Prior to joining King & Spalding, Dr. Harlocker was a patent agent with PDL BioPharma, Inc. where she worked with R&D scientists to file and prosecute patent applications, and performed extensive due diligence and general evaluation of intellectual property for in- and out-licensing. Dr. Harlocker previously worked as a Technology Manager at the University of Washington Technology Transfer Office where she managed both patent procurement and licensing of intellectual property. Dr. Harlocker was also a scientist at Corixa Corporation, where she carried out novel gene discovery in silico.

Dr. Harlocker received her B.A. in Biology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, her M.S. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Iowa State University and her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biophysics from Rutgers University. Her research activities included protein expression, purification, and crystallization, enzyme kinetic analysis, DNA-protein interactions, and bioinformatics.
