Rick Shackelford is a partner in King & Spalding’s Atlanta office and is a member of the firm’s Healthcare Practice and Business Litigation Groups. He is the Immediate Past President of the American Health Lawyers Association.
Mr. Shackelford represents health systems, academic medical centers, pharmacy providers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, health plans, pharmacy benefits managers, managed care organizations and physician organizations in connection with government investigations and a wide variety of litigation and regulatory matters. He regularly represents healthcare clients in the defense of civil False Claims Act actions, government investigations, and whistleblower actions. He has also litigated numerous complex matters for healthcare clients in federal and state courts around the country, including class actions. These matters typically involve healthcare payment, healthcare regulatory, managed care or complex commercial issues. He also regularly advises healthcare clients on federal and state regulatory issues, including self-disclosures, compliance, fraud and abuse, managed care, peer review/medical staff and certificate of need. Mr. Shackelford is a frequent lecturer and writer on False Claims Act investigations and healthcare regulatory, fraud and abuse, compliance and healthcare litigation issues. He has been listed for many years in the leading attorney rankings such as Best Lawyers, Chambers, etc.
