Doc Schneider is a senior litigation partner in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding. He joined the firm in 1981 and became a partner in 1988. Mr. Schneider has been representing clients on a diverse array of fronts for more than 25 years, including Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Honeywell International Inc, Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corporation, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, Square D Company, Brown-Forman Corporation and Bank of America. In addition to an active litigation practice, Mr. Schneider is one of the leaders of the firm’s E-Discovery Practice Group, devoted to counseling with clients on emerging e-discovery issues. Mr. Schneider headed King & Spalding’s General Litigation team from 1993 to 1998.

Mr. Schneider specializes in complex litigation, particularly mass tort and class action litigation. His experience includes:

  • Lead trial and appellate counsel in 2007 victory for Honeywell International, Inc. in North Carolina chemical plant exposure cases.

  • Lead appellate counsel who successfully argued that Georgia’s tobacco settlement bars individual punitive damage claims.

  • Lead trial and appellate counsel for one of the defendants in the landmark Engle tobacco case, that led to the reversal of a judgment of $145 billion in punitive damages.

  • Defeating class certification in various types of cases filed in Georgia, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Washington, D.C., New York and elsewhere.

Mr. Schneider has also taken a lead role in landmark internal corporate investigation, including investigating and reporting on the events leading up to the EF Hutton money management controversy in 1985, the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989 and the breast implant controversy in the 1990’s.

Mr. Schneider is a frequent lecturer and author on class actions, e-discovery, evidence and the United States Supreme Court’s key decisions each year.
