Marty McNerney joined King & Spalding’s Washington, D.C., office in 1994. As head of the firm’s Insurance Coverage and Recovery Practice Group, his practice consists of insurance coverage litigation, arbitration, and consultation. He has extensive experience in representing policyholders in all aspects of insurance coverage matters, including trials and appeals. Mr. McNerney has represented policyholders in disputes regarding all types of insurance policies, including property, general liability, employment practices liability, directors and officers (D&O), errors and omissions (E&O), product recall, business interruption and contingent business interruption, crime and fidelity, builder’s risk and other specialty areas of insurance.
Since Mr. McNerney joined the Firm, King & Spalding’s coverage practice group has assisted its policyholder clients in collecting more than $3 billion in insurance proceeds to offset the clients’ losses and to resolve adverse third-party claims. Mr. McNerney has been practicing in this area for over 20 years and is Chambers rated.
Mr. McNerney is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of International Trade, and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, District of Columbia, and Federal Circuits.
Mr. McNerney earned his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia in 1980. While in law school, he served on the Editorial Board of the Virginia Law Review,was a Dillard Fellow legal writing instructor, and was elected to the Raven Society. He graduated magna cum laude from Hampden‑Sydney College in 1977, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa.
