Mark Thompson is a corporate partner in King & Spalding’s London office and Co-Chair of firm’s Private Equity Practice. Mr. Thompson’s practice focuses on international and cross-border transactions and on the representation of private equity funds and fund sponsors. He also leads the London desk of the firm’s Russia practice. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, leveraged buy-outs, joint ventures and corporate finance transactions. Mr. Thompson’s practice concentrates on the representation of clients making investments in Europe, Russia and the Middle East. Mr. Thompson also has a leading practice with respect to the acquisition of companies in the merchant acquiring/payments industry.
Mr. Thompson has represented a wide variety of private equity funds and corporations in international and cross-border transactions.
Mr. Thompson represents a number of private equity funds with respect to acquisitions and divestments, as well as fund sponsors in the formation of private equity funds. He has significant experience with respect to U.S. federal securities and corporate fiduciary issues relating to the acquisition of publicly held companies as well as issues relating to the acquisition of distressed companies. Mr. Thompson has represented clients in a number of industries, including the energy, telecommunications, technology, banking and finance, transportation/logistics and retail industries. Representative clients include Arcapita Bank B.S.C.(c), The Coca-Cola Company, General Electric Company, Global Payments, Macquarie Global Property Advisors, TPG Capital, TSYS, Unigestion, United Parcel Service and Seera Bank B.S.C.(c). He has given presentations and written on a variety of corporate law topics, frequently focusing on issues in connection with international private equity and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Thompson received his J.D., cum laude, from The Harvard Law School in 1995 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in 1992. Mr. Thompson is a member of the New York State Bar, the State Bar of Georgia, the District of Columbia Bar and the Atlanta and American Bar Associations.
