Jay Harris is head of the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group. Mr. Harris’ practice focuses on transactions in the healthcare industry and on the formation of new entities and structures for the delivery of healthcare services. He has extensive experience in acquisitions and divestitures of healthcare providers, including hospitals and health systems, home health and hospice agencies, long term care facilities, ambulatory surgical centers, physician practices, dialysis and diagnostic imaging providers, dental services companies and pharmacies. Mr. Harris has represented insurance companies and managed care organizations in numerous transactions, and has also represented private equity funds and other investors in the healthcare industry. His clients have included both for profit and nonprofit entities.
Mr. Harris has been recognized by Nightingale Healthcare News as one of its Outstanding Healthcare Transaction Lawyers. He has also been included in listings of Georgia Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America.
His practice also includes general corporate work, public and private offerings of equity and debt securities, venture capital financings, leveraged buyout transactions and regulatory advice with respect to insurance and investment adviser matters. He has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions of industrial service, manufacturing and distribution companies.
Mr. Harris received a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1980. He received a J.D. and an M.B.A., with highest honors, from Vanderbilt University in 1984. Mr. Harris served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law.
