John Tucker is an attorney with the Tort Litigation and Environmental Practice Group of King & Spalding.  He has extensive experience in pre-trial discovery in mass tort litigation, including the representation of manufacturers of pharmaceutical and tobacco products.  As the Team Leader for King & Spalding’s Discovery Center, he supervises the 170-person team of attorneys, paralegals, information technology staff and project assistants involved in providing cost-effective discovery services to clients defending product liability, consumer fraud, antitrust and intellectual property actions across the country.

Representative Experience

  • Supervised the daily activities of a team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff dedicated to document discovery projects and made daily decisions concerning the allocation of resources in order to maximize efficiency and ensure the timely completion of project goals.  The support staff includes a 10-person group of information technology specialists familiar with a variety of software and database programs, including Summation, Concordance and other proprietary programs specifically developed for firm clients.

  • Served as the day-to-day client contact and interacted with client personnel including:  in-house counsel, Litigation Management, Law Finance and Information Technology to coordinate ongoing document discovery projects. As daily supervisor of discovery activities for National Counsel, coordinated document discovery and trial issues with Regional and Local counsel.

  • Prepared budgets, project proposals and status reports for clients concerning document collections, reviews and productions.

  • Worked with outside database vendors to develop and test new or revised data applications for use in document discovery and have coordinated the migration of data from existing to new systems.  This experience includes working with vendors such as KPMG, Technology Concepts & Design, Inc. (“TCDI”), and Compulit.

  • Led document preservation and collection exercises from multiple business locations in connection with the closure of two companies.  This involved personally traveling to over 20 business sites to identify, collect and preserve paper and electronic records.

  • Managed a document production facility, located at client headquarters, responsible for the identification, collection, control and processing of client records and information for litigation.

  • Produced documents to adversaries via make available (“Quick Peek”) productions, direct-to-plaintiff productions in paper copy and electronic format, and to a settlement-mandated, centralized document repository.

  • Supervised the production of documents to, and monthly maintenance of, an internet-based repository which contains in excess of 8 million pages of client records.

  • Drafted proposals, protocols and record-keeping forms for company-wide document collection projects, interviewed client personnel and reviewed archived records indices and conducted company-wide document sweeps through collections performed by outside counsel and client employees.

Litigation Technology Experience

Supervising and training attorney review teams and collecting, reviewing and producing documents.  Due to Mr. Tucker’s involvement in these projects, he has experience coordinating and supervising the selection of vendors.  He also has experience creating project plans and developing protocols for objective coding, imaging, scanning and printing.  Mr. Tucker has extensive knowledge and experience of document review and litigation support systems including Stratify Legal Discovery, Applied Discovery’s Online Review Application (ORA), Summation iBlaze, RingTail, Introspect, Clarvergence, Discovery Radar, Concordance, IPro and Microsoft Access.

Mr. Tucker received his J.D. in 1995 from the University of Kentucky College of Law.  He is a 1991 graduate from the University of Kentucky where he received his B.B.A. degree with a major in Finance.  He is a member of the Kentucky Bar and the State Bar of Georgia.
